Where do you work? SNP Security, Protective Services Division
What does your role involve? The Coordination of all after hours staff and Operations for Protective services, which includes existing clients and any requests from new clients
What attracted you to the security industry? At first, my first role as a security officer was to be a transition job while I studied for another career after having been in the construction industry for 15 years and needing a change. Once in the industry, I was attracted to the diverse interaction with the public and the client, the challenges involved in protecting their staff and assets and the proactive aspects of managing their risks.
What do you most enjoy about your role? The diversity of the role, working with a dynamic committed team. Attending to operational issues for Guards, Patrols and CIT Australia wide does bring with it diverse challenges and opportunities.
What has been your career highlight so far? There have been a lot of highlights so far to note some: · Working at Centennial park as a Security Ranger was a highlight, due to the many responsibilities and events on this site, the knowledge of security operations gained was not only satisfying but the stepping stone to my current role.· As a Night shift Coordinator, the challenge of the recent APEC meeting and my input in the planing and Coordination of our operations during the event and the experience gained during this period was definitely a highlight.

What tips would you give to those considering a career in security? Talk to people already in the industry and learn about the different career paths you can potentially take e.g. Monitoring room operator or K9 handler, once you have an idea of this path, get the appropriate training and licence to reflect your goal.Approach the larger security companies to get a start and gain experience. Once in the industry gain further training and experience if for example you wish to get into the supervision or risk management side of the industry.
